Teff is a fine-grained cereal native to the Ethiopian Highlands, where it is the primary grain crop. It is naturally gluten-free, rich in iron and calcium, and has gained international recognition as a nutritious ancient grain.

Broadcast seed onto a well-prepared, firm seedbed and roll lightly; teff seed is tiny (< 1 mm) and must not be buried deeper than 1 cm.
Waterlogging is the primary yield limiter. On heavy clay soils, use raised beds or the traditional Ethiopian broad-bed furrow system.
Harvest promptly when the panicle turns straw-colored to minimize shattering losses, which can exceed 20%.
